A Person can register to vote at the Mecklenburg County Voter Registrar's Office in Boydton, VA - Call 434-447-7636

 

BUILDING PERMIT

All new construction, renovations or additions to existing structures require a building permit. Building permits are issued by the Building Inspector, located in the South Hill Municipal Building. (434) 447-5041

 

BUSINESS LICENSE

All businesses (except contractors and peddlers) must have a definite place of business within the corporate limits of South Hill to be sold a business license. The definite place of business can be their residence. If they are not located within South Hill, they do not buy a license. The fee varies upon type of business. Business licenses may be obtained at the South Hill Town Office, 211 South Mecklenburg Avenue. (434) 447-5041

 

YARD SALE

A permit for Yard Sales is required. Yard Sales may only be held on residential property. No fee and only 4 per year. Contact the Town Office, 211 South Mecklenburg Avenue. (434) 447-3191

 

GARBAGE COLLECTION

In the Town of South Hill, residential pick-up is done once a week. To find out which days it is picked up in your area, please call the Town Office (434) 447-3191. A monthly fee of $7.00 is added to the water bill for this service.

 

ELECTRIC SERVICE

Virginia Power provides electric service in the Town of South Hill. (434) 447-5100 Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative provides service to county residents. (434) 372-6100

POSTAL SERVICE

The South Hill Post Office is located at 216 E. Ferrell Street. The Bracey Post Office is on state Rt. 903. Ebony's Post Office is on state Rd 626. The LaCrosse Post Office is on Main Street.

Bring Virginia registration card to obtain Town or County decal. Cost $25.00 per year. Decals may be transferred, should you trade vehicles or need to replace a windshield. Anyone transferring a decal should bring at least a portion of the original decal, along with the receipt and the new vehicle registration to the Chamber Office. A transfer decal will cost $2.00. Decals are due March 31st each year. A $25 penalty will be added as of April 1st. If you purchase a  new vehicle anytime during the year, YOU MUST purchase your decal within 30 days to avoid the $25 penalty. A public notice will be placed on local radio stations and in local newspapers during the month of March as a reminder of the due date. No notice is mailed.

 

VIRGINIA STATE VEHICLE INSPECTION

Inspections must be done annually. There are numerous inspection stations in the town and county. Most garages, car centers, tire sales and service stations perform this service.

TOWN TAXES

Real Estate and personal property tax bills are to be paid by January 5th. A ten percent late penalty is added to all tax bills starting January 6th, plus interest accrued monthly. If there are any questions concerning county taxes, contact the County Office. (434) 447-7636

 

COUNTY TAXES

Real estate and personal property tax bills are sent out in April and October. The bills are to be paid by June 5th and December 5th. DOG LICENSE

All dogs over the age of 4 months need to be licensed and receive dog tags once a year. Dog tags go on sale November 1st at Graham Hardware 106 South Mecklenburg Avenue, South Hill (434) 447-3779
